Hacked accounts plaguing Google Adwords (Payday Loans)

Hacked Adwords accounts are becoming common place within the UK payday loan industry and no-one at Google appear to be doing anything about it.

Throughout the day there are multiple hacked accounts showing up for all payday loan related keywords on Google.co.uk - The ads are there right now. The curent account is owned by a college and the hackers are redirecting the ad to a payday affiliate website.

This activity is illegal and is potentailly putting thousands of peoples financial details at risk and it is Googles responsibility to sort the issue out.

I would like to see a really good explanantion as to what exactly it is that you are going to do about this and if you do not I will be reporting this matter to all that will be concerned.

Could you upload screenshots to demonstrate the claim? And explain how you draw the conclusion that these accounts are hacked?

Ok no problem. Where would I upload these to?
If you would actually just Google it yourself you would see. It really does not take a genius to see that the account has been compromised. The redirect alone is against policy.

Edit: The ad in question has not been suspended which confirms my suspicion.

I will be back to report the next one, as there will be a next one (using a different "hacked" account).

Hello again Mark;
In order to escalate the case to Google, we need to provide Google with screenshots clearly showing the case: i.e screenshots showing the ads (marked in colors), and a link to the destination URL,
Check this discussion (on another violation) which is a good example how a case is submitted to Google;

Thank you!

There is a screenshot. Back yet again with another account. Within minutes the ad will be chnaged to a payday loan related one and redirect to a payday loans website.

As the account is hacked they ramp up the CPC and the ads can rank at the top without effort.

This is the second one since I reported the one earlier. You cannot ignore this issue as it is rampant, so blatant and most of all a security risk for potentially thousands of people.

Which ad is from a hacked account?
How do you know that the account was hacked?
Why the advertiser did not report the hacking?

That one got removed and yet here they are back again using a TESCO account. See screenshot below:

They have not managed to rewrite the ad and place the redirect just yet as it has only just started to display.

The ad will change to "Cash Advance" within a few minutes and also the URL redirect will be placed on there.

How many is that now, 3 in just a matter of hours.

I did forget to highlight the hacked ad in the first screenshot but although fairly obvious, I am very surprised that you have to ask. Maybe this kind of ignorance to this kind of activity is the reason behind why they can get away with it for so long.

The top ad in the first screenshot is the hacked account. The advertiser usually is completely unaware until they receive their overinflated bill. Not all advertisers are actively monitoring their accounts on a daily basis.

And you are not telling me that TESCO actually want their ads displaying for all payday loans related keywords and this is some kind of coincidence. I hope not.

I really don't understand....

  • You are saying that a Tesco account is hacked, just because you are seeing a Tesco ad shown against a "pay day loan" keyword?
  • And, additionally, you are saying that the agency running the account for Tesco is not aware of the hacking?
