Frequent Ad disapprovals: "Destination not working" But it is!

Frequently seeing clients Ad campaigns being disapproved due to "Destination not working" when they in fact are 100% working.

Help links lead to this article but after reading it in full, our ads pass all of those listed criteria.

Very frustrating. We used to suspect that Google's verification staff in other countries were being blocked by geo location but we disabled the country blocking features that we used to do for some sites and are STILL we are plagued by this problem. I've confirmed that the destination's response code is 200

Our Agency reps at Google have been unable to help us on this issue.

The "Fix issues" wizard within AdWords is zero help.

Can anyone here please provide any insights?

Client's site is "cam llp" (no space + [dot]com) which is also the destination url defined for the ad. (No http or https included in the defined path.)

Through process of elimination I've narrowed down the code that is causing the Adwords Verification to fail to something in THIS chunk of code.

If this section is removed from the htaccess, the verification completes successfully.

More baffling...

If the section is restored after initial verification/approval and the ad resaved/resubmitted, it will pass subsequent verifications without issue.

a website must respond fast enough and properly

to all google's crawl requests from all locations.

that site seems to be returning a 403-forbidden --

depending on system-load and location details.

otherwise, if there does not seem to be any issue

or the issues have been resolved simply contact

google support directly.

Robots.txt is OK, so it isn't that.

You should look at your .htaccess file, just in case.

And get someone else to look for geo blocking in your system, just in case something has been missed.

This we're aware of.

Try: https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcamllp.com%2F&tab=mobile for https

Also the http version should be working. Hmmmm!

We've done so in the past. Part of the problem is sometimes they manually review and approve the campaigns but then never offer an explanation as to how this happens or how to avoid it in the future. We need a permanent solution.

I don't think you're going to find a "permanent" solution for this. Sometimes it happens, and I don't think I've ever gotten an answer as to why either. Sometimes the fastest solution is to copy and paste the ads, then remove the old ones. It's not ideal, especially for larger accounts, but it might reset the error and get things going again.

Hi

I think you should take a look at access logs and find out what URLs were visited by user agent AdsBot-Google. You can deep dive in to response to these hits to resolve this issue.

Unfortunately we don't have a way right now to look into server logs efficiently. We've been looking at setting up an ELK stack for our DigitalOcean Ubuntu VPS droplets but haven't done that yet.

Is there another way to easily do this in the meantime?

How do you check this? What tool can I use to see what my site's response is?
