Exceeding character limits for headline and descriptions

Hey y'all,

lately I've been seeing numerous ads appear that contain headlines of up to 37 characters and description lines exceeding 90 characters (desc. lines 1+2 combined). See attachments.

I've read that using Dynamic Search Ads, its possible to exceed the character limit for headlines, but this doesn't explain the long description lines.

Has anyone else come across examples like this or have an explanation how this is possible?

Thanks

Hi Erik,

While creating a text ad, the Preview Tool shows how your ad would be displayed depending upon the punctuation used in your text ad. For example, when you write first line of description and put a full stop there, chances are that your Title plus the first line of description will be appended if your ad qualifies for the Top ad. Like this:-

Similarly, if you don't put a full stop and continue in the second line of description, chances are that first and second line of description are appended together and shown if the ad qualifies for Top ad. Like this:-

Let us know if that helps!

Hi Pankaj,

thanks for the reply.

However, when looking at the first example (headline exceeding character limit), you can see that description lines 1+2 are appended together, hence the headline and description are not appended together, but still the headline clearly exceeds the 25 character limit.

The second example (description exceeding character limit) is an ad that appeared on position 8, so description lines 1 and 2 being appended together is not possible in this case.

Can you think of any other explanations for these extended headlines/descriptions?

Thanks
Erik

Ads that use Dynamic keyword insertion may exceed the character limit, however Google doesn't disclose that.

There would be umpteenth instances of character limit exceed in text Ads, there's no explanation for this though, maybe a little charity by Google!
