Clickers wasting clients budget!! Need Help!!

Hello!
I'm working only as a SEO specialist. One client of mine is using my SEO services and is using a Google Ad Words agency services as well.

But the client is attacked by clickers, probably hired by competitor.

They are probably using VPN or something else, change their IPs each hour and waste his advertising budget each day for 1-2 hours.

Any ideas, how to protect from this?

Hi Borislav,
You don't need to worry about this Google adwords will take care of that. Google has sophisticated monitoring and detection systems to identify, report, and act on invalid clicks.

Thank you, Santosh, for your reply.

I'm affraid that Clickers are very smart, they change and use different IPs each 1-2 hours and Google algo is not so quick and flexible to stop this, so my clients budjet is wasted very soon and the effect of advertising is very low!!!

This need some other solution.

Are you sure that these are competitors? The reason I ask is that I have seen many campaigns where the settings were such that the budget was drained very quickly but for no effect.

If the client is targeting one country, for example, but has the default advanced location setting of "people in or interested in my target location" - coupled with broad match keywords, you may well find that these clicks are genuine - albeit worthless.

Before worrying about competitors it is worth spending a few moments to look at the dimensions tab to see where the visitors are coming from and which keywords and ads are being clicked.

Then within Analytics look at the operating system of the visitors - they may change their IP address, but will not readily change their OS... patterns here could give you a clue as to whether this is a single person (or a small group) or not.

I suspect - only from experience - not your specific case - that you will likely find that these worthless clicks are down to loose targeting and broad keywords rather than anything else.

stickleback , Thank you for your time and answer!!!

My case is more specific, targeting is ok, just city of London, and some specific hours.

The business is Rubbish Collection.

My client know for sure /because he hired a call center guy from the competitors company, competitor didn't pay the guy in time, a couple of months, so the guy moved to my clients company/ that the competitor has about 10 people, with jobs - clickers, to ruin other companies in this business Ad words campaigns, to waste them with fake clicks.

So ... it s real, and I search for help about this.

Its really serious and big problem.

Hello @Borislav_A,

Are you able to provide whether these fraudulent clicks are occurring for search ads or display ads, or both? Display ads can racket up a lot of invalid clicks especially through mobile app placements.

You may benefit from a 3rd party tool that integrates with your adwords account to block IP addresses based upon a threshold automatically so you do not have to manually do so.

It could also be as poster @stickleback stated that it may not be from invalid clicks at all but poor targeting such as the use of broad keywords or wide targeting options that encourage more clicks but a low ROI.

Let me know if this helps!

Nick

Hi everyone

I will continue on what Borislav wrote.

Unfortunately, the problem is pretty big. It's because internet providers like BT, Virgin Media, Sky, etc. can give unlimited amount if IP's for 24 hours to any of their clients.

The clickers work organized and certainly very carefully. The BT network only has 5+ different IP groups/subnets, starting with 81, 82, 86, 109, 217 etc. The combinations only for 86.130. - 86.191. subnet are more than 3.9 million.

All possible campaign settings for avoiding fraud clicks are made. There is not much we can do with an AdWords account anyway and we've reached our limit. We need serious assistance of the Google AdWords team for preventing this problem. There is no external software or any setting we can make or use to help solving the issue. We had to actually ban some whole subnets of the most critically abused ISPs. Although, this way we limit most users of those providers who want to use Rubbish collection.

I hope Google AdWords team take responsibility and pay strong attention to the problem, because we are not talking about one client only but for the whole Rubbish collection market and applying monopoly strategies to spend a lot of the competition's marketing budget.

Best regards,
Velislav / Magic Creative agency

I am also concerned about this problem. What is Google AdWords team doing to prevent the same users clicking on ads while switching IPs ? Just telling us do not worry we have "sophisticated monitoring and detection systems to identify, report, and act on invalid clicks or impressions " is absolutely not enough for us who pay.

Hello, all!

I think Google Ad words team have to focus on :

1. Short time duration - clickers stay in the site for 1 to 5 sec, while real users stay at least 5 - 10 seconds.
So this short time duration could be used as some filter.

2. User behaviour - clickers dont scroll or dont move cursor - which is a strong signal for fake activity, just to waste the budget.

I cover this topics in my article here - http://ideabg.com/bg/podr.html?gen=clickers-301 - in Bulgarian, use Translator, to read this.

Thank you.
