Another company is using our company name - can they do this?

Our company name is HCSS Education.

When you type HCSS Education into Google, Orovia comes up as the top search result. It appears that they must be using our company name as a search term.

As far as I'm aware, our company name isn't a trademark like Coca Cola for instance, but it is our trading name...is there anything we can do?

Hi Anna,

From what I recall, there have historically very little done in regards to bidding on keywords - trademark or not (with some exceptions based on your location).

Just a couple weeks ago, Google updated their policy on this and expanded the regions where bidding on trademarked terms/keywords is allowed https://support.google.com/adwordspolicy/answer/177578#.

Basically, there probably isn't much you can do to stop this, instead, it would be best to put your efforts into your own account and ensure that you're #1 when someone is searching for your company.

Hi Anna W,

Welcome

If the company name is registered/trademarked then Google doesn't allow other advertiser to use it in ad copies or as keywords. But if it is not registered then others can use it.

Thanks
