All ads in existing campaign now set to Approved (Limited)

A few days ago I just found that all ads in our main advertising campaign, which has been running for over 8 years, were arbitrarily changed to Approved (Limited) several weeks ago and as a result, we have had no ads running for several weeks. I made no changes to the ads, the keywords or our website any time before the time of the approval change.

We are a legal pregnancy termination clinic in Sydney, Australia and the Google analytics pages indicates that the ads are not displaying owing due to Google's policy on advertising abortion in Australia. However they are definitely not in breach of Google's policy on abortion advertising in Australia (because we are not advertising a drug to induce abortion). In fact, these ads have been previously approved by Google and running for many years, along with similar ads from other termination clinics.

I have called the Google Adwords call centre several days ago expecting that the ads could be re-approved quickly because it's not a new ad awaiting approval, but haven't heard anything despite promises from the call centre operators.

After 8 years and prior approval, how can these ads suddenly become flagged "Approved(Limited)" and prevented from displaying? More importantly, is there a way to escalate this problem?

Hi,

I've never run a campaign for your service, so I don't know the ins and outs.

However it seems to me like your ads bypassed the review system for a while, but this system does get updated and I also suspect they do random manual checks, so maybe you just got unlucky.

I'd suggest you try creating new ads in the meantime (as approval times for these can actually be quicker than waiting on approval for edits of existing ads), and maybe tone them down a little to aviod getting flagged (not in any devious way, just if you think you're not violating TOS, you may need to help G understand that by toning it down).

Hi Jack,
Thanks for your advice. I'll try the new ad approach.

I also just received an email from the Adwords call centre saying that they have escalated the problem to the specialist team, so hopefully someone's looking at it.

On 1 Feb 2013, I received word back from Google that their Adwords specialists had advised that our ads were not in breach of their policies, so all ads were returned to their original status of "Approved".

Two days later, half of our ads stopped displaying in our home state because they have returned to the "Approved (Limited)" status. Numerous attemts to re-open this fault with Adwords support seem to be falling on deaf ears. They reply "the status of your ads is correctly marked as per Googles policies". (despite the fact that Google confirmed that these very same ads were compliant and therefore approved only days earlier)

Coincidence or not, the ads stopped displaying shortly after completeing Google support's customer satisfaction survey, for which I gave some negative feedback due to the difficulty and delay in resolving the matter.

Not sure where to go from here. At least some of our ads are displaying, but for how long?
