Hi Community Users,

I’m on the Ads Review team at Google and here to help you get your ads up and running faster!

We’re seeing lots of questions from you guys lately on having your ads disapproved for ‘Destination URL not working’ or ‘Inaccurate Display URL.’ So we thought we’d do a quick post on helping you break down what this means and get your ads running again, or avoid this altogether!

Invalid HTTP Response Code

Your ad should lead to a website that works for all users regardless of browser, location or device

Use https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools to check where errors are occuring on your website

504, 405 - confused about what these error codes mean? A complete list is available in our webmaster guidelines

If you’re using robots.txt on your site, ensure that it is configured correctly!

Remember that your site may load fine for you, but a disapproval under this category means the crawler couldn’t crawl your website.

Inaccurate Display URL

Your landing page’s domain must match the domain of your ad’s display URL; For e.g., if the website you’re advertising uses “example.com,” your display URL must also contain “example.com”

Use https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools to verify where users will land (after any redirects) and ensure the domain matches your display URLs

Exceptions are allowed for a small list of business: certain shopping platforms, pharmaceutical terms, resellers and domains with inappropriate language, more details are here

Hope this helps!

Hi Charvi!

Thanks so much for posting this info here. I have a quick scenario I'd love to hear your thoughts about.

I have an ad group - it has 4 ads in it pointing to www.website1.com - I want to change those ads over to www.website2.com. So I delete all the website1.com ads and then create new ads for website2.com.

I've seen disapproval notices come across occasionally (even on deleted ads) and sometimes create real problems for the ad group in some instances.

Any ideas as to why I might see this behavior?

Is there any validity to the idea that since there is a 'history' of everything in our accounts that once a domain is added to an ad group, that domain is partially/forever attached to that ad group?

Hi Tommy,

Thanks for your question!

No, it's not the case that a domain is partially/ forever attached to the ad group even if it's deleted. We've seen this a few times, only in the situation in which the new ads (with domain website2.com) are created immediately after deleting the older ones (with domain website1.com). Waiting ~5 minutes or so between the two events should avoid this anomaly.

If you're noticing otherwise, feel free to reach out and let us know so we can investigate.

Hello Charvi, Quick question. I have troubles in setting the display url for my ad and I'm advertising a blog. If my Landing Page's URL is http://www.mysite.blogspot.com , what should be my Display URL ? And Destination URL ? Thanks

Hi Jehan,

Thanks for your question!

The different names get confusing, but your destination URL and landing page URL are in fact the same thing Smiley Happy - it is the website a user is directed to when they click on your ad. The display URL is the URL entered in your ad text itself.

If your destination URL (or landing page URL) is http://www.mysite.blogspot.com, your display URL must include mysite.blogspot.com. Depending on your preference, you can use mysite.blogspot.com, www.mysite.blogspot.com, topic.mysite.blogspot.com, mysite.blogspot.com/topic

Hope that helps! Feel free to let me know if this is unclear or you have any other questions.

Hi Charvi,

Today I have seen an strange activity in my newly created Adwords account. As I have used the diffrent url in my destination url than my display url ( by mistake) after half an hour the ads were disapproved...that was ok..but I have noticed that my campaigns have received 3 impression.

How can it possible as my both display url (abc.com) and destination url (xyz.com) are different and received 3 impression?

It seems similar case of Tommy' account...both have some strange activity in the account.

Hi Rakesh,

Thanks for your question!

I would imagine this is because your ad was marked as 'Eligible' while pending for review. This status is given to ads that Google has not yet reviewed, but that can still appear on Google search result pages. You can read more about this approval status here (https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/188700), and other possible statuses here (https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/1704380).

Hope that helps! Have a great weekend Smiley Happy

Hi Charvi,

This error is also coming up when using the AdWords Express interface to promote our Google+ business page. The display URLs ("plus.google.com") are automatically generated by AdWords Express so are beyond my control. The text ads are running even though I received the notification, but the display ad has not been viewed.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for your question! Could you please help me understand it better?

Are you suggesting that your text ads are continuing to get impressions after your ads have been disapproved for 'Inaccurate Display URL?'

For a Google+ business page such as 'plus.google.com/+google,' it is okay to use 'plus.google.com' as your display URL and 'plus.google.com/+google/posts' as your destination URL.' If this is the case, your ads (display or text) should not be getting disapproved for 'Inaccurate Display URL.'

Please help clarify the issue, so I can help you resolve it and get your ads running! Smiley Happy

Four types of ads are created when using the AdWords Express wizard to promote our Google+ business page: 3 x text ads and 1 x display ad. The business is prompted to create a headline, but the display URL is automatically inserted for the Google+ business page.

I have received an email once-a-day for "AdWords Express Ad Disapproval Notice" with the warning for: "[Display URL] One display URL domain per ad group: All display URLs
within a single ad group must have the same domain."

When I view stats within AdWords Express, they show we're getting impressions for "Google Search", but none on the "Google Display Network." So, yes, even though I'm getting the daily "Disapproval Notice" at least some of the generated ads are running.

I know the Google+ business page display URLs should not be disapproved. That's why I think there's a bug in the AdWords Express generated display ad. Unfortunately, ads created in this manner can't be viewed in the full AdWords interface, so I can't get a better look at what might be causing the disapproval emails.
