AdWords ads disapproved because of inaccurate display URL. Need help.

Running ads for a local convenience store, Jacksons Food Stores. They are offering discounts on ski tickets to the local resort here in town.

Here is the ad:

$10 Off Skiing At Bogus

Buy Three 20 oz. Pepsi Products At

Jacksons & Get $10 Off at Bogus

www.jacksonsskiforless.com

They keep getting disapproved because of inaccurate display URL. The link takes them to a Facebook page that gives all the details about the campaign, https://www.facebook.com/JacksonsFoodStores/app_208195102528120?ref=ts

I have tried several different display URLs to get approval but nothing is working. I have used www.jacksonfoodstores.com, www.jacksonsfoodstores.com/ski.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Hi MattyShifley,

First, your Display URL and Desitnation URL's need to match.

if you're displaying jacksonsskiforless.com then the actual landing page/destination URL needs to reside at that same domain name:  jacksonsskiforless.com/page.html

But in reality, I'm not getting that (jacksonsskiforless.com) URL to work.  You should just stick with http://www.jacksonsfoodstores.com/ if there are no other websites that you can use.  There are very strict policies surrounding the creation of AdWords Ads.  The most basic principle is that of the URL's.

You can read more here:  http://support.google.com/adwordspolicy/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=175906&rd=2

Also, on this page:  http://support.google.com/adwords/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1704395  you can read about creating your first ad.  Here's a snippet:

"In the "Create an ad" section, select "Text ad" and type in your headline, description, display URL, and destination URL. Both URLs should come from the same website."

Hope this helps!

Hi mattyshifley, the Display URL domain must match the (final) Destination URL domain, so if you're displaying jacksonsskiforless.com, the landing page - after any redirects - must also be on jacksonsskiforless.com.

The only solution here is either to change the Display URL to facebook.com or put a site/page up on the domain for jacksonsskiforless.com.

So the URLs are the same but still getting disapproved. They were shrunk using s URL shortener because the Facebook URL is longer than the accepted characters. The shrunken URL is www.statictab.com/ttp26my and the actual Facebook URL is https://www.facebook.com/JacksonsFoodStores/app_208195102528120?ref=ts.

Umm... Try this for a display URL, with that destination URL:

facebook.com/JacksonsFoodStores

Does that work?

Here's an example that worked for one of our clients (If you will all forgive me for the plug, just as an example I know worked for an approved adwords ad).

Display:

facebook.com/pages/Tom-Dwyer

Dest URL of FB page:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Tom-Dwyer-Automotive-Services/242066999376?sk=wall&filter=2&ref=notif&...

Remember though - Only one destination/display URL per adgroup. Make sure you stick with one ad, or the same display/dest. URL for all ads in the adgroup as you are experimenting, or else you will have more than one issue to deal with at a time.... Which, is very confusing and frustrating. Smiley Happy

Yes Tom that worked, but now they are disapproving the ad because of trademark. The promotion involves Pepsi products so I am not sure what to do now because I have never had a trademark problem before.

Hi mattyshifley, have you ever had an Ad run approved?  If not, I think it's likely the trademark disapproval was "hidden behind" the inaccurate Display URL issue.  Although in some cases it is possible to get approval to use trademark terms within Ad copy, I think it's unlikely to be possible with a company like Pepsi.

Are you advertising specific products within the store or the store itself?

Hi Jon. I have never had this many problems with an Ad run before. I ended up just changing Pepsi to soda, and then I plan on talking with a Google rep tomorrow. The campaign is promoting discounts off of ski tickets if they buy 3 Pepsi products so I don't know if the client will be happy with just soda but it is what it is.
