Ad Issue: Gambling certificate required? We're not a gambling site.

Hi All,

Would really appreciate help on a recurring issue we've started having on our AdWords account in the last month or so.

Random ads are being disapproved and we are being notified that we need a gambling certificate.

This happens really randomly in various campaigns and ad groups.

We're a gift giving website so I really don't understand why this is happening.

Here is our site if you don't believe me Smiley Happy http://www.giftsdirect.com/

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Thanks,

Luke

Hi Luke,

Sorry to hear about this annoyance you're facing.

Sometimes there will be something about your ads or website that will trigger red flags in Google's system, even if the red flags aren't relevant.

It would probably be worth reaching out to Google support to see if they can do something on the back-end to indicate in the system that your website and account are not gambling-related.

Here's how you can contact Google's support team: https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/7217785?hl=en

Best,

John

Hi John,

Really appreciate the reply.

I've already reached out to support as well as our account manager and have been told that the tool Google uses to review ads can sometimes disapprove ads accidentally and through "machine learning" will eventually learn that our account has no gambling related issues and might learn to stop disapproving them.

To be quite honest this to me was an answer that says they don't know what the problem is and give a general machine learning excuse.

Hi Luke,

That makes sense. I would say that based on my experience with similar issues for clients, there's a good chance that Google's response to you is accurate, and that eventually the system will figure out that you're not a gambling site and will stop disapproving your ads. Until then, you'll probably just have to bear with the problem. Sorry I can't help you find a better solution!

Hi Luke, One of my clients is currently going through this..and I've been trying to figure out the solution. Our ads have been disapproved daily for the past few weeks while our account rep was on vacation. My client is a SAAS product, so nothing to do with gambling. I called adwords support about 6 times during this and my final email response is below. Basically, they don't know how to fix it.

" Unfortunately here there isn't much more we can do. Since the disapproval is automatic there is nothing to prevent it. You should see a much quicker turnaround with this automatic re-review. Typical review time once an ad is uploaded is 4-6 hours so I wouldn't expect this re-review to take much longer than that since there is a team that regularly checks for manual reviews needed. ... There are no resources I have that let me know what specific aspects caused the system to disapprove these.

Sorry there is not a better way to prevent this. With this automatic re-review you should only see new ads having to be re-reviewed. Thanks for your patience and let me know any other questions you may have. "

But if you complain enough and get annoyed with them, they will escalate your account to engineering to be placed into an auto-review process each time your ads are incorrectly disapproved. So, you don't have to call into support to get your ads to be manually re-reviewed. It still takes almost a day to get your ads back up. My recommend is to create addition variations of your ads in the ad groups where ads are disapproved to prevent your campaign from totally going dark.

"  Good news! I was able to get your account set up for automatic re-review. This means that although your account will still show disapprovals for gambling, there will be automatic manual re-reviews daily to get those ads approved for you. This means that you will see ads appear as disapproved but likely re-reviewed and approved about 24 hours or less after upload. "
