Account suspended for "Repeated advertising policy violations", adwords support won't tell me...

Full subject: Account suspended for "Repeated advertising policy violations", adwords support won't tell me... why exactly. (Tried asking in 7 emails.)

Hi,

It says "repeated violations" and "multiple policy disapprovals", but this was my first ban and this is my only account.

I have had one ad unapproved because it had the word "Warcraft" in it, but since then I changed it to "world editor", which isn't trademarked or copyrighted. (And no, my ads have nothing to do with "World of Warcraft".)

I haven't even started any campaigns yet. My balance is at 0$.

All of my ads are Approved. All of my keywords are "Eligible" (some pending approval), with a score of 3-7 out of 10.

Some ads say "The keyword phrase doesn't currently trigger any of your ads", but I doubt that's an issue, the system just ignores such keywords, doesn't it?

What did I overlook, what did I do wrong?

Thanks,
Daniel

p.s.: After 7 exchanged emails, it is still not clear to me why I was banned. They refuse to tell me. This is the canned response they keep sending me:

Hello Daniel,

I am sorry about sending the same response again:

As mentioned in our previous email, your Google AdWords account has been
suspended due to multiple policy disapprovals. Upon review, we've
determined that this account suspension was made in accordance with
AdWords policy and procedure. For this reason, we aren't able to revoke
your account suspension and won't accept advertisements from you in the
future.

Hello Daniel;

We need some more info:

  • What are you advertising? Can you share your URL?
  • Did the first email from Google have a reference to the Policy section that had been violated?

Agreed, we'll need more information. It's difficult for us to pinpoint the problem when we know less than you do.

Hi,

Thank you for all the replies.

Sadly, the first email contained just as little information as the rest did:

"It has come to our attention that your Google AdWords account does not comply with our Terms of Service and Advertising Policies. As a result, your account and any related accounts have been suspended..."

A very vague email. There were no references to any policy sections, it sounds completely generic. And later when I asked, no elaboration or details were given. I tried multiple times, they didn't even bother responding to my last query.

The website I was advertising is http://3ice.hu/ which hosts a low traffic and scarcely updated blog and a discussion forum centered around computer games and making them. Which is a hobby of mine. I don't sell anything there, but I do offer programming and game design related services, accepting donations in return. I usually end up doing it for free, however. My goal with advertising was just traffic.

Some of my keywords: war3, world editor, "w3m", "w3x", starcraft 2 editor, galaxy editor, sc2 map, starcraft ii galaxy editor, "World Editor", "Maze Designer", "Click Wars", "3ICE", "map making", war3 mapping.

Hi 3IE

Your landing page clearly violated the user experience clause of the Policy: (bridge page)

(quote) ;

  • Google AdWords doesn't allow ads that promote bridge pages. A bridge page, also known as a doorway page, is a web page created for the main purpose of sending visitors to a different site.
  • Bridge pages offer little or no unique content and are considered low value to users.

No valuable content on your landing page except links to other web-pages

Thank you. Makes sense.

But why didn't customer support tell me that then? And why ban me for a minor thing like that?

I read other topics here and all of them stated that landing page violations are not a bannable offense, they just disable your campaign until you fix it.

Edit: Clearly what I should have done is set up individual advertisements for each blog post and forum category. Those had content/purpose.

Edit2: By the way my landing page offers free downloads of games, that should have been considered content. My keywords for "maze designer" and "click wars" are names of games I created. Isn't that useful content on the landing page?

There could be other violations I haven't noticed (e.g. If you advertise software - you must comply with the requirements for that). Sometimes when there is more than one violation,  Google does not list them: instead,  Google sends a generic email. (I  don't know  the reason)

Perhaps they thouht I was offering a pirate download of Warcraft 3?

I know it is hard to grasp the concept of modding or map making (creating a game within a game) for an adult who only played pacman and has an unused copy of snake 2 on his mobile phone.

This is the reason when people ask what's my hobby I usually just tell them it's programming. Explaining game modding to someone foreign to computer games is a tough job.

Hi,

I just received this email:

While we regret any frustration or disruption this may cause you, providing our users with the highest quality ads is integral to the long-term success of our program. As noted in our advertising Terms and Conditions, Google reserves the right to refuse ads or suspend ad campaigns when deemed necessary. They always say that. They review and determine and reassure me that I am to be banned, but without providing any reason or explanation. They mention that "Google reserves the right to refuse ads or suspend ad campaigns" but they did neither.

What evil thing could I have possible committed that resulted in my suspension?
